Hey —
Our first-ever repeat guest earns the return. In Episode 3 Kelly Reverb sketched his arc. Here he fills in the parts we left on the bone — and it turns into two stories braided together: a lost history of Dallas dance music, and a hard-won recovery.
The Dallas half is a gift for anyone who thinks the map of '80s and '90s club culture stops at Chicago, Detroit, New York and the UK. The Starck Club, designed by Philippe Starck, serving MDMA on trays before it was illegal. Go Go Mike holding 60-second mixes. The red-white-and-blue Lone Star Records label, built on pure "why do I need these guys?" logic, and a track — "Go Get On It" — that landed on the Blade soundtrack and keeps finding new life.
Here's the moment. Picture Jerry Jones, fresh off buying the Cowboys, down on Kelly's dance floor at Profiles "before he got his veneers." The city's elite colliding with the underground. Only in Dallas.
Heard it before? This is Part 2 — the literal continuation of Episode 3, and the first time we've brought anyone back. Kelly also drops a callback to Episode 1: DJ Dan, a headliner whose name sat above his on the flyers. But the real thread is the one Part 1 never touched — the MP3 crash, the open-format grind ("every time you play the Cupid Shuffle it steals a little bit of your soul"), the drinking, and five years sober on the other side.
